Relaxation?

How does it feel to set your own brief? It's always difficult to define your own parimeters, without the constraints. Will architecture thrive in a borderless realm or within a fixed set of limitations? We were asked to relax and enjoy the process, but can we actually relax given the lack of directions set for us.

Totem Pole Visibility

The totem pole of the petrol station seems to be more effective and visible in the night as compared to the day.

Advertising Sprawl

You are greeted with a total of about 200 signages and advertisements within a small space. The verdict? Tesco is the winner, it emerged victorious with 40% influence, followed by security signages with 20%, Esso only accounted for 15% of all the signages.

Program Approach

"Students will start by developing a program for their gas station that will determine the form and site of their gas station"

Program? 24hr analysis?

Possible programs:
1. Traffic flow
2. Store earnings
3. Lighting program
4. Amount of petrol sold
5. Security Camera
6. Advertisements

I think i'll go for advertisements and security instead.

Gas Station of Tomorrow

You are asked to develop a design proposal for a station of today's/tomorrow's world. What is this? A filling station as we know it: a place where cars can drive in and refuel petrol? A fuelling station, gas station or petrol station is a facility which sells fuel and lubricants for motor vehicles. The most common fuels sold are gasoline (petrol) or diesel fuel and air. It has a minimum of one pump but often more and is in general roofed and illuminated. Many gas stations have convenience stores that sell food, beverages, cigarettes, lottery tickets, motor oil, newspapers, dirty magazines and sometimes rudimentary auto parts. Is that what you have in mind?
